Great Western Trail is a worker movement game becaus Alexander Pfister said it in an interview (https://yellowparable.com/great-western-trail-interview-with-alexander-pfister/). Period. And its more of an Tablaue building mechanism. then a deckbuilding as i see it.
And Sam you should play it cause its not that many options you have to think of the Game as it evolves will show you what you what to do. on every turn its not so much to think of.its no Mombasa or Through the Ages

BGG's top 10 is obviously dominated by a group of enthusiasts that don't represent the majority of boardgamers, and I'm not talking about casuals vs hardcore: How do you explain that 2 COOP ONLY , CAIMPAIGN are #1 and #2 respectively?
Campaign is very unpractical and unpopular, and cooperative is certainly unnapealing for many players. Not to mention such an expensive and heavy battle puzzle such as gloomhaven (im not saying it's not good, but.. it's for a very specific subset of boardgamers)

Too much solo, campaign and cooperative which you dont see on actual tables as much

Internet promoted games are taking over from snotty gamer games on BGG. cats and dogs living together.

Sam, definitely give Great Western Trail a try! Once someone shows you how one loop of the trail works, things start falling into place. Definitely much easier to play than Gaia Project 😀

I am really digging the intro music, is it usually on Sam's videos?

Sam, have you tried playing Terraforming Mars with the official drafting variant? You can also draft the initial 10 cards with which each player starts. Since you like drafting, I think you’d like it more that way, and it gives you more control and a more level playing field from the start. It’s my preferred way to play. Add the Prelude expansion if you want the game to be shorter.

Also, Great Western Trail isn’t as complicated as you think. There’s not that many spots to choose from. Since you are moving along a trail, you can only choose to move to a few spots on a turn. It’s like a rondel to some extent, not so much worker placement.

Sam, I really enjoyed this! I agree with everyone else saying it would be awesome to see you work through several more sets of these…maybe even the full top 100!

I expected to see this all being how Sam doesn't like Through the Ages and a ton of angry euro comments… and was I surprised to be proven wrong!
Sam, I think you could still like GWT, it's not nearly as heavy as some people say, I mean if you can play and enjoy Caverna, GWT should be fine as well.

Your first play of GWT will be a bit of a slog (it always is the three times I have taught or been taught) but it really is a great game. And it's easier to play than it looks. And it plays 2p really well.

GWT is a rondel-builder game with a tiny deck-builder attached, where you can add your own spaces that give you good stuff, and that your opponents have to pay you to cross. The decision space isn't nearly as bad as you think, and it certainly isn't a worker-placement game any more than any other rondel. I highly recommend giving it a try.

I saw the title, checked BGG, TI4 is 10th, I was certain at that point, that is the reason Sam made the video, and I was right.
Sam, don't bother playing Gaia Project. I like that game a lot, but I feel that you will not like it at all. Let Mandi and Susan deal with it, they will love it much much more.

Like the idea of this video and how it's realized by Sam Healy. Open minded and hearted guy who keeps kind even if a top 10 game like Gaia really sucks.

Sam, if you haven’t played a game, don’t go saying things just based the assumptions you make on the game. GWT is not a worker placement, which shows you know nothing at this point about the game, which makes everything you say afterwards just empty ramblings. You haven’t played it, it’s fine if you say that and move on. It’s ok not to have played everything and it’s fine to not have an opinion on a game for once.
