Really insightful. I am raising an eyebrow about the scoring system not being influenced, as many of the previous comments have pointed out, individuals are probably "influenced" by other means. Saying that I have seen less questionable scores of late. Great video and all the best! Hope you get that visa!

Modern liberalism and feminism is making you feel that way. Because I wouldn't feel any different if I was in a room full of women and my profession. Why? Because I don't buy into the liberalism and feminism biased Europe in the American Media push on citizens. It's garbage and you shouldn't feel that way. We're just people and it doesn't matter for male or female. It's 2018. It shouldn't be about the color of our skin or male or female. It's sad that Society has become this wedge of issues that separate us instead of human beings doing what we love together. Because that's what it was a bunch of Gamers together doing what they loved it doesn't matter if they were all dudes are all women

"It didn't happen to me so it never happened."..

Hint: If you were an actual public figure beyond just a reviewer & writer – which you were, less people are gonna want to risk trying to bribe you.

I disagree that games should be reviewed completely independently. Creativity is a huge draw for a game. A game that is the same great game as the previous release of that game isn't very creative.

I can understand your point of view. But the creativity thing is important enough that it should be surfaced in something as visible as a review score.

The end of this video. Your brilliance and care for people shined through and that’s why I subscribe to you. Not because you are some attractive woman. You truly are different. You deserve recognition. Keep working at making the world a slightly better place. Thank you so much!

IGN has and always will be stupid just because of their extremely flawed scoring system which makes no sense at all. They really need to get rid of that and just use words instead of numbers.

just sounds like a polished profesional with a very polished treatment of words. not that everybody needs to spit out heavy words, but the lack of them doesnt feel like "true to the bone". sincerely i dont feel here the same truthful stuff as i do when i watch Jim Sterling.

i guess jim is not expecting to extend his carreer as a host of anything that can be, so he´s not giving any shit to politeness, and by the way YEAH i DO BELIEVE that behind the curtains the money goes on, or IGN carefully picks employees with the sweetest visions of life and goodness and generosity.

like someone else that started to work for Warner said… "it´s not that i cant complain about warner stuff, it just happens that i like what they do"… OH MY how convenient.

Has no-one in the YouTube comment section never had a job with at least a little inherent market secrecy? Every brand forces you to sign an NDA/contract that prevents you from basically talking shit about the firm whilst you work there AND for when you leave. What you think she'd ruin her new job chance by saying "Yeah IGN are getting money under the table so they give all the hot garbage 9's" Of course she won't. If she did she'd be in a storm of legal shit with IGN and that would ruin her chances of working with any other company since they won't have any confidence in her being able to keep to an agreement or try to harm their brand.

Now is this me saying they totally do get paid off? Not at all, but don't take the recently ex employees word as gospel as her not telling the company "secrets" is in her benefit should she want to have a career. It's the very same reason you never answer the question "Why did you leave your last firm" in an interview with a "Because it was full of incompetent idiots who struggle to breathe regularly, and it took so much mental restraint not to bash my head against the wall. It was so bad that I gained weight and lost hair. I literally couldn't stand that hell hole anymore".

Not paid off for good reviews? Then I guess getting access to unreleased games, all paid for trips, behind the scenes access etc doesn't count? Sure there was no incentive there to keep those perks by giving good scores.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but so many people don't seem to understand that companies intentionally have reviewers do games that they are more inclined to enjoy. For instance, they will have the guy who likes Call of Duty review the Call of Duty game. This is because the type of consumer who would purchase the game is the kind that ENJOYS CoD, so it's only natural to have a reviewer that feels the same way.

It doesn't make a lick of sense to have someone with clear disdain towards CoD review it, as that is disingenuous to the viewer. That's not to say that they will always find someone to enjoy the game, it's just that if say a popular RPG comes out, they are gonna have the RPG fan review it. Obviously if it's a bad game it will still get a bad score.

Thankyou for actually talking about the biased talk of games journalism. I'm pursuing journalism right now (starting a course in February next year) so knowing that my dad is overexaggerating when it comes to that sort of stuff makes me more comfortable.

IGN has a bad reputation because of the incestuous nature the hosts/reviewers have with the industry. For example Jose Otero and Jared Petty both went to work for video game companies. Most “journalists” do not take jobs with companies/industries they cover, they move on to other journalism gigs.

I have enjoyed your content when it appears on my feed. I understand that you don't like being a show piece for the male gaze as a lot of places tend to place females in front of cameras for that reason. Anyone that has seen you on ign can recognize that you are well spoken and charismatic. You identify with your audience with an infectious energy and speak with thoughtful arguments when presenting your opinions. My daughter loves her Xbox and seeing strong female personalities in media. She even sassses me by saying "I'm Urza so I can do anything" when she is overcoming her own fear or anxiety. Urza is an anime character she likes. Seeing a smart woman talking about stuff she likes holds her interest and I hope that your new opportunity puts you in a position to continue inspiring young minds and showing young ladies that boys aren't the only ones that can have success doing the things that they love.

IGNs game rating system is fundamentally flawed if they aren't taking previous titles released into context. EA and Activision re-release the same first person shooters every year add a new campaign and slap number on it.

Back in the day when you released a new campaign for a game it was called an expansion and you wouldn't pay the full price of an AAA title for it.
