Purl, directed by Kristen Lester and produced by Gillian Libbert-Duncan, features an earnest ball of yarn named Purl who gets a job in a fast-paced, high energy, bro-tastic start-up. Yarny hijinks ensue as she tries to fit in, but how far is she willing to go to get the acceptance she yearns for, and in the end, is it worth it?

Pixar HQ: GUYS, we need to capitalise on the wave of feminists! But we need to find a palatable way to do this, any suggestions?

Pixar staff: Let's switch the woman for a ball of yarn!
Pixar HQ: THAT'S A GREAT IDEA

Can I not like it cause it was not great in its art and character development. Yarn compared to human was extremely uncreative, uninspiring and extremely unimaginative for Pixar. If the men would have been some other form (pencils, staplers, paperclips, etc.), it would of allowed the viewer to imagine this world and the scenarios that yarn was in. Having men who all look alike (again poor character imagery) was extremely single dimensional and in your face to pummel you with their message. Pixar used to have you engaged as a viewer with imagination and wonder. Imagination and creative character story telling was was completely lost with in seconds starting with the elevator meeting. I can appreciate the idea of the story line but execution was so far below Pixar's level. Additionally, It really should also go with out saying but the instance of language and a few "jokes" to get their points across were also without creativity. Too bad. An important message poorly executed.

What an idiotic vision of women. Yarn balls? All men are sharp and smart but women are soft, fluffy, slightly goofy yarn balls. And is really the only way for a woman to mix with her male colleagues to follow up the same conduct codes that excluded her in the first place? I bet this silly court-métrage was made by men. What a waste of time.

I came into this knowing what the message was supposed to be about and I thought the first half was pretty ham-fisted but the second half somehow felt a lot more poignant. It's like when it's just you in a bad workplace, you do what you gotta do to survive, but when you have a junior, you realise you need to fight for them too.

I wish I could give this more than one thumbs-up! I really hope Pixar and media in general have more things like this in store for us! It goes to show one person can make a world of difference, and that us balls of yarn have to stick together!
