Looking at the cost saving for a single car might not be seen as much. But if they are producing thousand of it then fuck yeah it will save a lot of cost and time to manufacture. They use plastic because it is faster in term of production and yes it save cost because pressing metal is more costly.

If too claustrophobic to be a coupe, if i have to drive one, it has to be a convertible… otherwise i'll go with the lovely 4 doors with wayyyyyyyy more options..

Use of plastics is made for a reason, which is to keep it clean. What's important is the quality of plastic.
Rear seat is more of a bonus to carry kids or adults for short distance. This is sports car, so emphasis is on driver, not rear seats, which is the reason it doesn't even have rear door ! The S Class coupe is the best luxury sports car in the market today. If you want pure sports car, then get Merc AMG GT.
Btw, it will be nice if you make video on new Merc E300de diesel hybrid.

One of the reasons for the "cheap plastic" is that it's more easily and readily replaceable. Those parts you pointed out are high use parts that are more prone to excess wear and damage compared to other parts.
