Hey everybody, we had a production hiccup while making this video review that forced us to limit the video to 720p. The actual game can, of course, run higher than that, and was played for review in 1080p.

lovecraftian horror games are usually got negative reviews because either a bad game design, or the developer didn't have a single clue what makes it creepy.

I'm glad this isn't one of them

I'm getting this, but Amnesia: The Dark Descent was essentially a Lovecraft game, and that was A) great and B) had me crap my pants consistently

what has happend to games these days. its more like movies where you hold down the x button and the game plays itself. There is really nothing out there for people who lived in the glory days…so depressing

With all the new graphics engines out there why would they go with this old over used unreal engine. Story is great and the choices to determine you fate is cool and all but the graphics are so disappointing.

8.5 sounds about right to me too. There were game mechanics that could have been better, but they were all at least okay. And the sheer amount of creepy ambience they've managed to pack into it is downright astonishing. My skin was crawling nicely long before the first monster showed up, even long before anything actually dangerous had happened. There's just this omnipresent feeling that something is badly wrong with the world…

This game is weak to medium at best… Childish so-called-horror. Animations fantastic? Where?

Just return to the 1920s on the tabletop with your trusted dice. Call of Cthulhu should ONLY be played as a tabletop RPG game with minis, maps, and conundrums. Trust me, I've been a keeper (game master) since the eighties.

Why the hell are you praising the animations? They are janky as hell and the worst part about this game, especially the facial expressions and lipsync.

You forgot to mention that skillpoints mostly effect on dialogue options which don't matter at all in this game.

For anyone looking to play an amazing game with great detective aspects and a truly amazing experience overall I very much recommend this game. Call of Cthulhu probably wont get the main stream praise it deserves but it certainly is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Highly recommend.

You use the word "animations" when the word doesn't apply to the point you are making. "Environmental animations" etc.
